Rizal Ramli accused of defamation

JAKARTA: Former coordinating minister for the economy Rizal Ramli was questioned at Jakarta Police Headquarters on Thursday evening after a complaint for defamation and offensive demeanor was filed against him by the former director of state owned insurance company PT Jasindo.

Rizal was questioned for two hours by corruption crimes detectives, according to Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam.

Former PT Jasindo director Amirudin Riyayat accused Rizal of damaging his reputation by saying that he was incompetent. The statement was printed in the July 6 edition of Tempo magazine and Harian Neraca newspaper.

The accusation made by Rizal, who was the chief economics minister at the time, resulted in Amirudin losing his position. --JP
