Riza Chalid's Son Lodges Appeal Against 15-Year Prison Sentence

Jakarta — The son of suspected Riza Chalid, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza, has lodged an appeal against his 15-year prison sentence related to alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products during the period 2018–2023.

In addition to Kerry, eight other defendants convicted in a similar case have also filed appeals.

“All Pertamina defendants are appealing,” stated Andi Saputra, spokesperson for Jakarta Central District Court, when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.

The eight defendants in question are: Riva Siahaan, Chief Executive of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023; Maya Kusuma, Director of Central Marketing and Trading at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023; and Edward Corne, Vice President of Product Trading at Pertamina Patra Niaga for 2023–2025.

Additionally: Yoki Firnandi, Chief Executive of PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) for 2022–2024; Agus Purwono, Vice President of Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) for 2023–2024; and Sani Dinar Saifudin, Director of Feedstock and Product Optimisation at PT KPI for 2022–2025.

Also included are Gading Ramadhan Juedo, Commissioner of PT Pelayaran Mahameru Kencana Abadi (PMKA), and Dimas Werhaspati, Commissioner of PT Jenggala Maritim Nusantara (JMN).

Andi explained that Edward, Maya, and Riva filed their appeals on Wednesday (4 March), whilst Sani Dinar, Yoki, Kerry, Gading, Dimas, and Agus filed their appeals on Thursday (5 March).

Beyond the defence team, the state prosecutor from the Attorney General’s Office also filed an appeal on Thursday (5 March).

In this case, Riva, Maya, Yoki, and Sani Dinar were each sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, whilst Edward and Agus received 10-year sentences. Kerry was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, whilst Gading and Dimas each received 14-year sentences.

All nine defendants were also imposed fines of 1 billion rupiah each, or alternatively 190 days imprisonment. Kerry additionally faced restitution of 2.9 trillion rupiah or alternatively 5 years imprisonment.

For their actions, the defendants were found guilty of violating Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20(c) of the National Criminal Code, read together with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Offences, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2021.
