Rivian R2 begins delivery to customers in the US on 9 June 2026

Rivian will commence initial deliveries of its R2 electric SUV in the United States on 9 June 2026, following the opening of reservation invitations and vehicle trial sessions. According to Engadget, as reported on 29 May local time, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released official test results showing the Rivian R2 offers a longer range than the Tesla Model Y despite its larger dimensions and heavier weight. Data published on the US Department of Energy’s Fuel Economy website shows the R2 Performance AWD variant with 21-inch wheels achieves a range of 531 kilometres per charge. The electric SUV also records a combined efficiency of 105 MPGe (Miles Per Gallon Equivalent), the standard metric used by the EPA to assess electric vehicle efficiency. The Rivian R2 weighs approximately 360 kilograms more than the Model Y. Additionally, the R2 has a taller body and a less aerodynamic design compared to Tesla’s electric SUV. Rivian states that the R2 variant equipped with 20-inch all-terrain wheels offers a shorter range of 494 kilometres with a combined efficiency of 99 MPGe. Previous R1 series owners who reserved earlier will receive priority delivery. Rivian also mentioned that some other reserved customers will be randomly selected for the initial delivery wave. Customers who complete their orders after receiving an invitation are expected to receive their vehicles within two to six weeks.
