Rainfall since the evening caused the Citalahab River to overflow once again in Pamarican District, Ciamis Regency. The incident caused the Citalahab River embankment to breach once more, leaving hundreds of homes submerged.

The river embankment had previously collapsed last week. It breached again after the river overflowed on Monday (16 February 2026). The collapsed section of the embankment in Kertajaya Hamlet measured approximately 18 metres wide and six metres high.

“This incident is a continuation of the impact from the high-intensity heavy rainfall that has been drenching the upstream area since 9 February. The river flow overflowed again and breached the embankment that was undergoing temporary repairs,” said Ani Supiani, Head of Operations at the Ciamis Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), on Tuesday (17 February).

Ani explained that the flooding inundated areas in Bangunsari Village and Sukahurip Village. In Bangunsari Village, specifically in Kubangpari Hamlet, 260 homes belonging to 282 households or 831 individuals were affected, with water levels reaching approximately one metre. The flooding also submerged around 200 hectares of rice paddies.

Meanwhile in Sukahurip Village, flooding inundated 34 homes in Sambungjaya Hamlet and one home in Kertajaya Hamlet. Other impacts included disruption to the Bangunsari-Sukahurip connecting road, damage to ponds and gardens covering approximately five hectares, and around 30 hectares of rice paddies at risk of planting failure. The total number of submerged homes in Sukahurip Village reached 135 units.

“Thankfully there were no fatalities. Our current focus is on emergency response and recovery. A total of 164 residents from Bangunsari Village have been evacuated to the Nurul Hak Mosque and Diniyah Al Ma’arif. Water levels are beginning to recede,” Ani said.

The Ciamis BPBD, together with the Indonesian Military, Police, Fire Service, Social Welfare Volunteers (Tagana), village officials and volunteers, carried out evacuations and clean-up operations at affected homes. The Ciamis Regency Government, through the regent and the Social Affairs Office, also distributed emergency logistics assistance in the form of basic necessities.
