River Embankment in Munjul, Cipayung Breaches, Residents Evacuated to Three Shelter Points

Flooding has submerged the Tower Alley area in Munjul Ward, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, on Saturday (21/03/2026). Water pooling is reported to continuously enter residents’ homes, reaching heights of half an adult’s calf, due to the collapse of the river embankment in the region. “Evacuations are currently underway. Assistance from the Indonesian Red Cross and the social services agency is already in process. There are three shelter points,” stated Cipayung District Head Diman when confirmed by Kompas.com on Saturday. The Cipayung District office is currently conducting intensive coordination with the East Jakarta Water Resources Implementation Unit (Satpel SDA). This step is taken to ensure technical handling of the breached embankment and to monitor developments in the water discharge on the ground. “I am currently coordinating with the Satpel SDA to ensure progress in handling the flood on the ground,” Diman added. As of this report, the evacuation process is still ongoing. The district office has not yet detailed the total number of affected families or individuals, but logistical aid from the Social Services Agency has begun to be distributed to the shelter locations. The flooding conditions in Tower Alley previously went viral through a video upload on the Instagram account @info.munjul. In the recording, residents showed fast-flowing water entering the living room and bedroom areas. Residents are advised to remain alert to the potential for rising water levels, especially if rain falls again on East Jakarta tonight.
