Rismon Sianipar's Restorative Justice Application Still in Process, Awaiting Jokowi's Approval
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that the restorative justice (RJ) application submitted by Rismon Sianipar, a suspect in the case alleging that the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is fake, is still in process.
Budi explained that RJ can only be carried out if there is a request from Rismon and approval from Jokowi’s side.
“The restorative justice for Mr RS is still in the processing stage. So, the restorative justice stage involves a request from the suspect, the person designated as a suspect, requesting to the victim or complainant for the case to be handled via RJ,” Budi said at the Polda Metro Jaya building on Friday (10/4/2026).
Subsequently, investigators will conduct a case review, both internally and externally, to determine whether the RJ requirements are fulfilled or not.
“If it has been approved and meets the restorative justice requirements, then restorative justice will be carried out,” he said.
Budi asked the public to wait for the results of the process because the case is still ongoing.
“So I ask all friends regarding that information, we are still waiting because the case process is still running,” he said.
It is known that Rismon Sianipar had submitted an RJ application by visiting Joko Widodo’s residence in Solo on Thursday afternoon (12/3/2026).
During his visit, the digital forensic researcher conveyed an apology as part of efforts to resolve the case through the restorative justice route.
Meanwhile, regarding the RJ application, Joko Widodo has left it entirely to his legal advisory team.
He assessed that the final decision on halting the case through the restorative justice mechanism is the authority of the police investigators.
Polda Metro Jaya has designated eight people as suspects in the case of allegations of Jokowi’s fake diploma after a lengthy investigation.
“Polda Metro Jaya has designated 8 suspects in the case of defamation, slander, hate speech, and electronic data manipulation reported by Mr Ir. H. Joko Widodo,” said the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Asep Edi Suheri, in a press conference at Mapolda Metro Jaya on Friday (7/11/2025).
