Jakarta — Digital forensics researcher Rismon Sianipar has filed a restorative justice application in the case involving allegations of a fake diploma belonging to former President Joko Widodo, Indonesia’s seventh president.

The Director of the General Criminal Investigation Unit at the Metro Jaya Police, Brigadier Imanudin, stated that the application was submitted to investigators the previous week.

“Several days ago, RHS [Rismon Sianipar] and his legal representative submitted a request to facilitate restorative justice to the investigator,” Imanudin told journalists at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

On Wednesday, Rismon, accompanied by his lawyer Jahmada Girsang, returned to the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters to enquire about the progress of the application. Their visit also served to fulfil the mandatory reporting obligation imposed on Rismon and other suspects.

Neither Jahmada nor Rismon provided detailed explanations regarding the restorative justice application. Jahmada only stated that Rismon had submitted a letter to the investigator, taking into account Article 79 of Law Number 20 of 2025 concerning the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), which governs restorative justice mechanisms.

“First of all, Rismon, in his current position as a suspect, has submitted a letter, which is then processed in accordance with the new Article 79 of the KUHAP, which has its own conditions,” Jahmada explained when met separately on Wednesday.

Jahmada added that his team remains open to two resolution options for the case. In addition to pursuing restorative justice, they are also prepared to proceed to trial.

Rismon, meanwhile, stated that he had submitted his latest findings to the investigator regarding research into Jokowi’s diploma. “Because the nature of the matter is ongoing and continuous, I reported it to the investigator. My findings could potentially contradict the conclusions I made in Jokowi’s White Paper,” Rismon explained on the same occasion.

The Metro Jaya Police have designated eight individuals as suspects in the case involving allegations of Jokowi’s fake diploma following an extended investigation. “The Metro Jaya Police have designated eight suspects in the matter of defamation, libel, hate speech, and electronic data manipulation, as reported by Ir. H. Joko Widodo,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Friday (7 November 2025).
