Rismon Sianipar Agrees to Peace with Jokowi, Now Called a Friend
The controversy surrounding the allegations of a fake diploma against Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has entered a new chapter. One of the suspects, digital forensic expert Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, has officially reconciled with the complainants through a restorative justice (RJ) mechanism.
This peace agreement has cooled what was previously a heated atmosphere. Even the Head of Jokowi’s Legal Team, who is also the Secretary General of Peradi Bersatu, Ade Darmawan, stated that his relationship with Rismon has now grown closer.
“Yes, Rismon Hasiholan, I think everyone knows him, affectionately called Bang Rismon. He is now my friend in this very warm meeting; Bang Rismon’s lawyer is very skilled in negotiations. It’s extraordinary in fulfilling his achievements as a lawyer, in accordance with the mandate of the Advocate Law,” said Ade, quoted on Thursday, 2 April 2026.
Ade emphasised that with this agreement, his side has agreed to end the case between himself and Rismon. However, Rismon’s legal status as a suspect still awaits the investigators’ decision.
“We are pleased with this success, and then the negotiators in this matter should not be ‘stirred up’ anymore, right? It shouldn’t become fodder for more stories behind the scenes,” he said.
He also added that the meeting atmosphere was warm and full of good faith from both parties.
“Bang Rismon is a friend to us, the complainants,” he stated.
Another complainant, Maret Sueken, said the peace decision was taken based on the good intentions of both parties, including reflecting Jokowi’s statesmanlike attitude in addressing this controversy.
“All of us complainants, with good intentions and good faith from Rismon, have carried out RJ. Strategic steps have already been taken. All of us complainants, Mr Jokowi himself, and the other complainants, Lechumanan, Ade Darmawan, have reached an agreement,” said Maret.
On the other hand, Rismon affirmed that the peace agreement was made without pressure from any party.
“The RJ process was without coercion or intervention from any party. I explained it to my lawyer Jahmada Girsang, then it was processed at Polda Metro Jaya,” said Rismon.
He also emphasised that the steps he took were still based on the results of his independent research.
