Risky risks freedom for fire

JAKARTA (JP): Two men convicted of setting a house on fire and
causing the deaths of four people were each sentenced to 12 years
imprisonment at the Bogor District Court on Monday.

Presiding Judge Usman Wahab said Risky and Maman were found
guilty of deliberately burning the house of Amir Mulyanto on
Sept. 21 last year. He said the two men burned down the house
after they had given more than one million rupiah in cash to
Amir.

Amir, who lost about Rp 900,000 in a gambling game to Risky
and Maman, had threatened the two men to return the stake to him.

Apparently intimidated, Risky and Maman met Amir's demand. But
on the way home from Amir's house they had a change of heart,
Judge Usman said.

They then bought a can of gasoline and poured the contents on
Amir's house. The house immediately went up in flames. Amir
managed to flee the scene but his wife Suhati, his daughter
Rukiyati and two of his relatives were trapped in the burning
house. (bas)
