Rising Plastic Costs, AHM Still Assessing Impact on Motorcycle Prices

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The global increase in plastic material prices is beginning to be felt by the automotive industry, including the motorcycle segment. Amid this pressure, two-wheeled vehicle manufacturers are recalculating the potential impacts on both production costs and selling prices to consumers. PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) is one of those closely monitoring these developments. The company has not yet taken hasty steps regarding price adjustments and is focused on maintaining the stability of raw material supplies. “At the moment, so far, the supply chain conditions are still secure and can support the raw material needs for motorcycle production,” he said. This statement indicates that AHM does not yet see the urgency to immediately raise motorcycle prices, although pressure from the raw materials side is starting to be felt. The main focus at present is to ensure the supply chain remains intact so that production is not disrupted. “We are striving to keep the raw material supply secure so that we can continue to meet consumer needs for Honda motorcycles,” Muhib said. Like several other industry players, Honda is prioritising efficiency measures as a short-term solution. This strategy is considered important to maintain business continuity without immediately burdening consumers with cost increases. “(Regarding motorcycle price increases) it is still under review. Efficiency is certainly being implemented for business sustainability,” he stated. Amid global uncertainty, this approach of restraint while pursuing efficiency is seen as realistic. For consumers, this means motorcycle prices remain relatively stable for the time being. However, moving forward, it will still depend on developments in production costs and the overall industry conditions.
