Rising Gut Health Awareness Spurs Diverse Probiotic Offerings

Public awareness of the importance of digestive health has steadily increased in recent years. This trend has driven probiotic beverage manufacturers to aggressively expand product innovation and consumer education on daily probiotic consumption to reach a wider market in Indonesia. Professor Wellyzar Sjamsuridzal of Universitas Indonesia’s FMIPA Faculty stated that people need to recognise the importance of maintaining gut microbiome balance through regular probiotic intake. ‘This practice effectively supports digestive health, helping to maintain overall fitness and enabling people to enjoy a happier life,’ he said. Amid this trend, PT Yakult Indonesia Persada has launched a new strawberry-flavoured probiotic drink. The new variant complements existing flavours—original, less sugar, and mango—and is fortified with vitamin D. Available from 1 June 2026, it aims to support digestive health through daily consumption. Yakult is known for containing 6.5 billion live L. casei Shirota strain (LcS) probiotics, which aid in maintaining digestive health. Since entering Indonesia in 1991, the company has continuously expanded education on the importance of gut and digestive health as part of healthy family lifestyles. ‘With this new flavour launch, Yakult reaffirms its commitment to supporting Indonesian families’ digestive health through daily consumption, as practiced by 38 million people across 40 countries and regions worldwide,’ said President Director Toshiyuki Iwamoto. He added that the company believes gut health is a cornerstone of overall wellbeing. Yakult is also the only food and beverage company in Indonesia certified as a probiotic drink. Alongside product innovation, the company has strengthened its distribution and direct community education through the Yakult Lady network. Alongside the strawberry variant launch, the company introduced a new look for Yakult Lady representatives, featuring pink vests to match the product’s branding. Yakult Ladies not only deliver products directly to consumers but also contribute to women’s empowerment and digestive health education in communities. Currently, over 11,200 Yakult Ladies serve millions of families across Indonesia. The new Yakult variant is available at retail outlets, convenience stores, supermarkets, and through Yakult Lady services without additional charges. To introduce the product, the company has planned promotional and educational activities. Additionally, it will participate in the 2026 Jakarta Fair Kemayoran with a dedicated booth offering interactive activities and exclusive merchandise for visitors.
