Rising Diesel Prices: Will Used Fortuner and Pajero Sport Prices Plummet?
JAKARTA – The increase in prices of non-subsidised diesel fuels such as Dexlite and Pertamina Dex is predicted to impact the used diesel SUV market, including models like the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
As is known, PT Pertamina (Persero) has officially adjusted fuel prices effective 18 April 2026.
In the DKI Jakarta region and surroundings, Dexlite now costs Rp 23,600 per litre, while Pertamina Dex reaches Rp 23,900 per litre.
Andi, owner of Jordy Motor showroom at MGK Kemayoran in Central Jakarta, stated that the movement in used diesel SUV prices could weaken following the increase.
“The prediction is that it will automatically drop with such a high rise. Up until yesterday, it hasn’t, but once it’s officially raised, it’s expected to start shaking things up,” Andi told Kompas.com on Saturday (18/4/2026).
According to Andi, the impact of the diesel fuel price increase will not be felt significantly right away. This is because there is still plenty of stock in the market, so prices tend to be held steady.
Dealers are also said to be inclined to hold off on buying new units and focus on clearing existing stock.
“The shaking won’t be much because people are still holding back. But they (the dealers) definitely won’t buy diesel cars first. They sell, they want to sell quickly,” he said.
“Maybe this week the prices won’t show a significant drop yet, because there’s still a lot of stock,” Andi added.
The diesel SUV segment, such as the Fortuner and Pajero Sport, still has its own market, particularly among consumers who need tough vehicles with long-distance capabilities and high torque.
“I can’t say by what percentage. Because this is causing panic. Everyone might panic with such a rise. But with this panic, dealers will definitely hurry to offload their diesel cars first,” he said.
