Rising Climate Risks: Jasindo Accelerates Rice Farming Business Insurance Claims
PT Asuransi Jasindo is accelerating the verification and disbursement of claims under the Rice Farming Business Insurance (AUTP) for farmers impacted by floods in Lamongan, East Java. This initiative aims to maintain production continuity while bolstering the national food self-sufficiency target.
Jasindo’s Company Secretary, Brellian Gema Widayana, stated that the acceleration of claims is in response to rising climate risks. “We are strengthening technical reserves, optimising reinsurance, and implementing integrated risk management to address potential surges in claims,” said Brellian on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
Brellian explained that AUTP is designed as a protective instrument against crop failure risks due to floods, droughts, and pest or disease attacks. In addition to speeding up claims, Jasindo is also conducting education on adaptive planting patterns to reduce the impacts of extreme weather.
“AUTP provides protection against rice crop damage from floods, droughts, to attacks by plant-disturbing organisms,” she said.
The programme targets farmers in farming groups with a maximum land area of two hectares per planting season. This scheme forms part of the protections outlined in the Farmer Protection and Empowerment Law.
Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman views collaboration among stakeholders as a determining factor. “Collaboration is key. Without synergy between central and regional levels, the food self-sufficiency target will not be optimally achieved,” said Amran.
Amran noted that the government has allocated support for AUTP premiums in 13 provinces through the regional budget in 2026. This support is directed towards maintaining the sustainability of farming businesses amid climate pressures.
Director General of Agricultural Infrastructure and Facilities, Andi Nur Alam Syah, stated that AUTP serves as a production buffer. “With coverage value up to Rp6 million per hectare per planting season, this programme keeps the production cycle running,” said Andi.
Claim disbursements are carried out through regional agencies in cooperation with PT Pos Indonesia to ensure funds reach farmers quickly. This acceleration is expected to enable farmers to promptly replant without capital constraints.
Andi added that the AUTP premium of Rp180,000 per hectare per planting season makes the programme relatively affordable. Government support for premiums demonstrates commitment to maintaining national food production stability.
