Rising and Recovering: Synergy in Building Temporary Housing in Sumatra (Part 3)
As many as 14 out of a total of 15 sub-districts in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, were hit by flash floods and landslides in November 2025. The disaster affected 2,038 houses and caused economic losses reaching Rp2.626 trillion. To temporarily accommodate the survivors, the government is building temporary housing consisting of two types, namely communal and independent. The temporary housing in South Tapanuli is distributed across five locations determined based on studies by the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to ensure they are far from disaster-prone points.
