Rising 8 Submarine Cable System Operational, Strengthening Indonesia's Digital Connectivity
PT Ketrosden Triasmitra, Tbk (IDX: KETR) and PT Ekamas Mora Republik, Tbk (MoraRepublic or IDX: MORA) successfully built the Rising 8 Submarine Cable System (SKKL) in May 2026. A ceremonial launch of the system’s operation was held on Wednesday (17/6/2026), attended by telecommunications industry players. The segment that has been deployed is the first Jakarta - Batam segment, while the Batam - Singapore segment will be the next project. The system has passed the testing and commissioning phase and is ready to serve Indonesia’s digital connectivity needs. Rising 8 is a 1,128.5-kilometre submarine cable system connecting Jakarta (Tanjung Pakis) – Batam (Tanjung Bemban) with an extension to Singapore. This SKKL uses repeatered system technology and is already available for telecommunications operators and enterprises requiring high-quality connectivity routes. The operation of Rising 8 adds to the choice of connectivity routes in the Indonesia-Singapore corridor, one of the busiest digital routes in Southeast Asia. The availability of this alternative route is important for network redundancy and service continuity, especially for operators and companies running critical operational applications. “Rising 8 is now ready for service. We are confident that Rising 8 will be a solid choice for customers who need reliable connections both domestically and internationally. This is the result of teamwork over the last few years, starting from planning, deployment, to testing and commissioning. And it is on the Rising 8 project that for the first time we carried out SKKL deployment independently, from licensing, use of vessels, to expert personnel. So we are very confident in undertaking subsequent SKKL deployment projects,” said Titus Dondi Patria, President Director and CEO of PT Ketrosden Triasmitra, Tbk. The Rising 8 submarine cable communication system uses submarine cable from the Prysmian Group, through its production plant, Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW) in Germany, a global manufacturer with over 125 years of experience in submarine cable technology, and is integrated with best-in-class high-quality repeaters designed to support a minimum capacity of 400 Tbps. As a supporter of the connectivity network ecosystem, Rising 8 will be integrated with MoraRepublic’s Nusantara Data Center (NDC) located in Tanjung Bemban – Batam, which holds Tier-3 certification from the American National Standard Institute/Telecommunications Industry Association. In addition, the main landing point of Rising 8 in Jakarta is also equipped with a Cable Landing Station and Data Center facility in Tanjung Pakis owned by Triasmitra with Tier-3 concurrently maintainable specifications, allowing infrastructure maintenance to be carried out without disrupting service continuity. “The completion of the Jakarta–Batam segment deployment is an important step in our efforts to build digital infrastructure capable of supporting Indonesia’s needs both now and in the future. Strong telecommunications infrastructure not only improves connectivity quality but also acts as a catalyst for digital economic growth and accelerates the equitable distribution of digital access in Indonesia, thereby providing a sustainable impact for society and businesses across various regions. This step is also in line with the government’s efforts to accelerate national digital transformation,” said Timotius Max Sulaiman, President Director and CEO of PT Ekamas Mora Republik, Tbk. The presence of Rising 8 is expected to improve the quality of digital services for the Indonesian public. With its large capacity, activities such as banking transactions, online shopping, online learning, and working and communicating from home can run more smoothly with minimal connectivity disruptions. Rising 8 complements the existing connectivity ecosystem by providing route diversity for Indonesia-Singapore traffic. For operators already using existing routes, Rising 8 can serve as a backup or for load sharing. For companies, the availability of dual routes means a lower risk of downtime, reducing the risk of service interruptions that can hamper daily activities increasingly dependent on internet connections. Rising 8’s target market includes telecommunications operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), content providers, and companies with high bandwidth needs such as financial services, cloud providers, and data centre operators. This SKKL route is strategic because Singapore is a regional digital hub with a high concentration of data centres and cloud infrastructure. With the operation of Rising 8, Triasmitra and MoraRepublic strengthen their position in the international connectivity market. Both companies see good growth potential given the increasing demand for bandwidth in the Indonesia-Singapore corridor, driven by the expansion of cloud services, corporate digitalisation, and the growth of digital services. The presence of Rising 8 is expected not only to build connectivity but also to drive a sustainable impact through accelerating equitable digital access in Indonesia, strengthening economic competitiveness, and developing an increasingly integrated and inclusive digital ecosystem.
