DKI Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno stated that the number of qurban animals distributed by the provincial government has increased this year compared to last year.

“Last year, the DKI Jakarta government distributed 160 cows, but this year it has increased to 210 cows and 10 goats. The breakdown includes 160 cows from state-owned enterprises (BUMD), 44 from the National Zakat Agency (Baznas), and 6 from the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI),” Rano said during a meeting in East Jakarta on Tuesday.

To ensure smooth qurban operations, Rano urged the 744 animal and meat health inspectors to carry out their duties diligently and responsibly.

He also instructed officers to ensure all inspections comply with animal health standards during both ante-mortem and post-mortem stages.

Furthermore, Rano said that if any signs of disease or violations are detected, officers must immediately coordinate and report to relevant local authorities and stakeholders for prompt action.

“I believe that the best service to the public is reflected in how we properly manage the qurban ritual. It is not merely about slaughtering animals, but also about fostering compassion, unity, and a sense of security for residents,” Rano said.

Regarding qurban waste management, Rano confirmed that monitoring is conducted at slaughter sites to prevent improper disposal, including into drainage channels and rivers.

“Typically, a pit is dug after slaughter to collect blood. Animal organ waste is usually buried at designated waste disposal sites. Monitoring is definitely in place,” he explained.
