Public prosecutors at the Indramayu District Attorney’s Office in West Java have demanded the death penalty for defendant Ririn Rifanto in the case of the premeditated murder of five members of one family. “We demand that the defendant (Ririn) be sentenced to death,” said prosecutor Eko Supramurbada during a hearing at the Indramayu District Court on Thursday. In the indictment, the prosecution stated Ririn was legally and convincingly proven to have committed premeditated murder and to have participated in violence against children resulting in death. The prosecutors assessed that all elements of the charges had been fulfilled based on facts revealed during the trial. In their considerations, the prosecution noted that the defendant’s actions resulted in the deaths of five victims from one family and were carried out sadistically. “The defendant’s actions annihilated one family of five victims in a sadistic manner,” Eko stated. Aggravating factors, according to the prosecution, include the deep suffering caused to the victims’ family, the defendant’s flight after the incident, the disposal of evidence, and the provision of convoluted testimony during the trial. The prosecution also assessed that the defendant’s actions caused public unrest, while no mitigating factors were found. In the same case, prosecutors demanded a 20-year prison sentence for co-defendant Priyo Bagus Setiawan. The difference in sentencing demands is based on the respective roles of each defendant as revealed during the trial. Both defendants were charged under Article 459 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder committed jointly, as well as Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection. The murders occurred in Paoman Village, Indramayu, in August 2025, claiming the lives of Sahroni (75), Budi (45), Euis (40), RK (7), and an eight-month-old baby.
