Ririn Rifanto Faces Death Penalty Demand for Murdering Five Family Members in Indramayu

The Public Prosecutor of the Indramayu District Attorney’s Office, West Java, has demanded the death penalty for defendant Ririn Rifanto in connection with the premeditated murder of five members of a single family in the region.

“Therefore, we demand the sentence of death for the defendant (Ririn),” stated Prosecutor Eko Supramurbada during a hearing held at the Indramayu District Court on Thursday.

In the indictment, the prosecutor stated that Ririn was proven legally and convincingly to have committed premeditated murder and participated in violence against children resulting in death. The prosecution assessed that all elements of the indictment were met based on the facts revealed during the trial process.

In their considerations, the prosecutor noted that the defendant’s actions resulted in the deaths of five victims from one family and were carried out brutally. “The defendant’s actions annihilated a family of five victims in a sadistic manner,” said Eko.

Aggravating factors, according to the prosecutor, include the defendant causing profound suffering to the victims’ family, fleeing the scene after the incident, destroying evidence, and providing convoluted testimony during the trial. The prosecutor also assessed that the defendant’s actions caused public unrest, while no mitigating factors were found.

In the same case, the prosecutor demanded a 20-year prison sentence for another defendant, Priyo Bagus Setiawan. The difference in sentencing demands is based on the respective roles of each defendant as revealed during the trial.

“We demand a prison sentence of 20 years for the defendant, minus the period of arrest and detention already served,” said E_ko.

In this case, both defendants are charged with violating Article 459 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder committed jointly, as well as Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.

According to gathered information, the murder took place in Paoman Village, Indramayu Regency, in August 2025, involving five victims: Sahroni (75), Budi (45), Euis (40), RK (7), and an eight-month-old infant.
