Riots and provocateurs
Riots and provocateurs
From Merdeka
It is an ironic present-day phenomenon that the ubiquitous
riots taking place in Indonesia no longer make media headlines.
Perhaps it is due to their high frequency and the great variety
of the regions where the anarchy occurs.
Can human life no longer be weighted with human rights? The
oddity has numbed the sensory perception of government officials.
It is not clear whether they are powerless or there is an unknown
reason for it. Maybe it is one of the ironies of the state of law
often proclaimed loudly by our bureaucrats?
Where are the law enforcers? Who are responsible? Where can
people go to lodge complaints? Who is supposed to give a feeling
of safety to the people?
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces is overly tenacious in defending
its seats in the House of Representatives, although the people
live amid anarchy and in drawn-out suffering because they do not
know where to go for protection.
What about provocateurs? Maybe they are extraterrestrial
beings from the wayang (shadow play) world sent by Durna
(intrigue-ridden adviser in wayang plays). Provocateurs used to
be called dalang (shadow play puppeteers, narrators). These
dalang could be captured in various forceful ways. But they are
now called provocateurs, a kind of alien being. Apparently they
cannot be touched by human hands, especially not by the law.
