Brimob Officer Apologises After Allegedly Assaulting MTS Student to Death
Bripda MS, a Brimob officer and suspect in the alleged assault of a Madrasah Tsanawiyah student in the city of Tual, expressed his apologies to the victim’s family and the public after attending a hearing of the Polri Code of Ethics Commission at the Maluku Regional Police.
“I sincerely apologise to the victim’s parents and family. I was negligent, and I did not fully consider the impact of my negligence. I had no intention whatsoever to assault anyone, let alone cause the victim’s death,” said Bripda MS, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday (24 February).
The apology was delivered directly before the panel of the Polri Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP), chaired by the Head of the Propam Division of the Maluku Regional Police, Police Commissioner Indera Gunawan.
With a trembling voice, Bripda MS admitted his negligence and expressed deep regret for his actions, which resulted in the victim’s death. He also apologised to the Polri institution and the Brimob Corps, which were affected by his actions.
“I also apologise to the Polri institution and the Brimob Corps, which I am proud to be a part of. Because of my actions, the reputation of the institution has been tarnished in the eyes of the public,” he said.
In addition to the victim’s family and the institution, Bripda MS also apologised to the people of Tual, especially the Kei community.
He stated that he was ready to accept all legal and ethical consequences for his actions.
“I apologise to the people of Tual, especially the Kei community, because my actions have hurt their feelings. I am ready to accept any consequences for my negligence while carrying out my duties and responsibilities. Please direct all your anger towards me, not towards this institution. This is my doing,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Police Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, affirmed that the ethics hearing was an internal mechanism to assess disciplinary violations and breaches of professional ethics.
The criminal proceedings against Bripda MS will continue separately and independently, in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
This statement was made in response to public scrutiny, which demanded transparency in the handling of the case and ensured that there would be no special treatment for law enforcement officers involved in criminal acts.
The Maluku Regional Police ensured that all stages of handling the case, both ethical and criminal, would be carried out professionally and transparently.
“There is no room for impunity. Polri members who violate the law will be processed according to the rules without exception,” she emphasised.
