Rinjani Trek Center to open

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Head of the province's tourism
arts and culture, Tjok Suthendra Rai, said here on Thursday that
the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara would inaugurate the Rinjani
Trek Center located in Senaru village on the slopes of Mount
Rinjani, West Lombok.

"The Rinjani Trek Center is a joint project between the
Indonesian and New Zealand government. It represents their mutual
friendship and concern in developing the ecology and tourism of
the area," he said.

He revealed the New Zealand government would provide
assistance in the layout of the national park, located 85
kilometers from the city of Mataram, making it more accessible.

The New Zealand-sponsored project is also expected to be well
maintained and to become an information center for guides and
foreign tourists wishing to explore the scenic park.

The volcanic area, with its magnificent crater and hot water
springs is one of the province's top tourist attractions and is
considered sacred by the native Sasak tribe and Hindus from
Bali.--Antara
