Rights Commission has new office

JAKARTA (JP): The National Commission on Human Rights moved to its new office at Jl. Pemuda No. 104, East Jakarta, Monday.

The General Secretary of the commission, Baharuddin Lopa, told The Jakarta Post yesterday evening that the commission needed its own office.

"We need to focus our activities on human rights affairs," Lopa said.

So far the commission's activities have been mingled with those of the correctional institution management. Its office was located in the same building of the Ministry of Justice in Central Jakarta, he said.

Lopa's statement proves the commission's commitment to be independent.

The commission is well known for criticizing the government. (03)
