Rights body to settle land conflict

JAMBI: The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will set up a subcommission to settle land disputes, an official said on Saturday.

Komnas HAM's subcommission head Amidhan revealed that the new body would involve farmers, fishermen, urban poor and activists from non-governmental organizations.

"The sub-commission would also be established in regions," Amidhan, who is also a member of the People's Consultative Assembly, said.

He said the sub-commission would handle land disputes which have caused fatalities such as in Halmahera, Maluku and Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara. --Antara
