Rieke Diah Pitaloka Promotes Literacy at Launch of Film 'Seni Merayu Tuhan'
Member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, brought the spirit of literacy to the world of cinema by proposing the launch of the latest film, ‘Seni Merayu Tuhan’ (The Art of Seducing God), at the National Library (Perpusnas) of the Republic of Indonesia. The film is an adaptation of a book by Husein Ja’far Al Hadar, familiarly known as Habib Jafar. As an actress in the film and a writer herself, Rieke considers the collaboration between book literacy and the medium of film to be a special step. According to her, bringing a film work back to the library is an effort to bring the public closer to the heart of the nation’s literacy. ‘I actually insisted to the producer that the launch be at the National Library, because this is a film from a book and the library is cool,’ said Rieke during the launch event at Perpusnas, Jakarta, Thursday (3/7/2026). For Rieke, a library is not merely a place to store books, but a space for encountering civilisation and various life stories. She invited the younger generation to make the library a guide in their search for identity. ‘In the library, we will meet many figures, many stories, and lives. If you are searching for your identity, do not be confused. Just look for guidance in the extraordinary books in the library,’ she added. Amidst her routine as a legislator, Rieke admitted that the filming process for this movie became a means of recreation and self-healing. The efficient shooting schedule, conducted on weekends, allowed her to remain productive without disrupting her state duties. She revealed that her involvement in this film, produced by Wahana Kreator, provided a new perspective, especially in her role as a mother learning to let her children grow up. Rieke referred to this project as a reflection of her personal spiritual journey. The film ‘Seni Merayu Tuhan’ is scheduled for a simultaneous nationwide cinema release on 13 August 2026.
