Riding a Rubber Boat, East Jakarta Mayor Directly Catches Plecostomus Fish in Ciliwung River

The East Jakarta City Government carried out an operation to capture plecostomus fish in the Ciliwung River, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. From Kompas.com’s observations, the operation was directly led by the Mayor of East Jakarta, Munjirin. Subsequently, Munjirin, accompanied by the Head of the Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries Sub-District Office Taufik and Assistant for Government Affairs of East Jakarta Fauzi, boarded a rubber boat to scour the Ciliwung River. The successfully captured fish were first euthanised before being placed into holes for burial. Munjirin explained that the plecostomus fish capture operation was conducted across 10 districts in East Jakarta. The former Mayor of South Jakarta added that controlling the plecostomus fish population is crucial for maintaining the aquatic ecosystem while supporting the clean, healthy, and comfortable Jakarta programme.
