Ride-hailing Services Scarce as Ramadhan Breaks Approach, Maxim Says Drivers Need Rest Time

Several users reported difficulty booking transportation services and food delivery, particularly approaching the time for breaking fast. This phenomenon, often referred to as the “ride-hailing crisis,” has also been widely discussed on social media.
Many netizens complained about lengthy driver search times. Some users even reported having to delay their iftar because food orders had not yet arrived.
In response to these complaints, Maxim, a digital transport services company, stated that its services continue to operate throughout the Ramadhan and Eid period.
The company stated that transport and delivery services remain available so that the public can access mobility needs and food delivery services.
“To maintain service availability, Maxim continues to record an increasing number of driver partners both in Jakarta and in various other cities across Indonesia,” said Dirhamsyah to Kompas.com on Friday (13/3/2026).
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that driver availability in the field is also influenced by the personal needs of driver partners, particularly during Ramadhan.
“On the other hand, we understand that our driver partners also have personal needs, especially during iftar time and during Eid,” he said.
“Many drivers take advantage of this time to rest, break fast with family, or return to their hometowns,” he added.
According to Dirhamsyah, as a partnership-based platform, Maxim provides flexibility to driver partners to determine their own working hours.
“As a partnership-based platform, Maxim provides flexibility for driver partners to continue accepting orders during these times or choose to rest,” he said.
