Ride-Hailing Driver Assaulted by Colleague During Electric Vehicle Battery Swap in South Jakarta
The assault has gone viral on social media. In the circulating video footage, both the victim and the alleged perpetrator are identified as online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers.
The victim and the perpetrator became involved in an argument when the victim attempted to swap an electric motorcycle battery, but the alleged perpetrator blocked the access, claiming the swap station had closed. In the video, the victim recorded the incident, stating that the alleged perpetrator was closing the swap station location because someone was sleeping nearby. A verbal altercation ensued.
“I want to swap, so what? What is your problem?” the victim said while recording.
“It closes at 12,” the alleged perpetrator replied.
“But the swap station is still functional, so why?” the victim countered.
“It closes at 12,” the alleged perpetrator repeated.
“This is a public place; you shouldn’t be using it for sleeping,” the victim remarked.
The dispute escalated when the alleged perpetrator attempted to push the victim and subsequently swung a punch at them.
When asked for confirmation, the Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko, confirmed the alleged assault. He stated that the victim has filed a formal police report.
“The victim has come to the Setiabudi Police Station and has filed a report regarding the alleged assault,” Joko explained when contacted on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Joko added that the case is currently being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Setiabudi Police Station, though he has not yet provided specific details regarding the full chronology of the incident.
