Ridding Jakarta of its hoodlums
Ridding Jakarta of its hoodlums
From Pos Kota
While efforts made by the Jakarta administration (Pemda DKI)
to eradicate hoodlums in Jakarta have apparently not been
successful, the Rp 30 billion budgeted for this cause will,
reportedly, be switched to efforts to straighten out those having
social welfare problems, including sidewalk vendors.
Accordingly, I would like to suggest that Pemda DKI spend the
Rp 30 billion budget for the sole purpose of eradicating
hoodlums, once and for all, as they disturb the public at bus
terminals, railway stations, and in public buses and trains.
Otherwise, the citizens of Jakarta will continue to be restless
and insecure in these public areas.
Another step worth considering would be to discontinue the
illegal trade of alcoholic drinks currently available in small
shops. I have a strong feeling that many criminal cases are
caused by drunk people or those consuming illegal drugs.
