Richard Lee’s convert certificate has been revoked. Hanny Kristianto, a preacher from the Mualaf Center Indonesia, has spoken out regarding the revocation of that certificate.

“The first reason I revoked the certificate is that I do not want the issued certificate to go unused. In fact, to this day, his KTP still lists Catholic,” said Hanny Kristianto in an online interview on Sunday (4/5/2026), as reported by detikHot.

According to him, the mualaf certificate has important administrative functions, such as changing population data to handling funerals. If it is not used, it could potentially cause problems in the future.

“Because when a convert passes away, many are buried not according to Islamic rites. Why have a certificate if it’s not immediately changed? Do not burden those still alive after death,” he explained.

Additionally, Hanny also touched on the potential use of the certificate in Richard Lee’s legal case against Doktif. He said he does not want the document to be used as a tool in legal conflicts between parties.

“The second reason is that I do not want this mualaf certificate to be used as evidence or material in court for Muslims to attack each other. Because it was mentioned, ‘Yes, we will use this for legal construction’,” he said.

Hanny stated that if that happens, he as the issuer of the certificate could get dragged into the legal process.

He emphasised that the mualaf certificate has administrative functions, such as for marriage, changing the religion column on the KTP, and handling death certificates.

“This certificate is only for administrative purposes. For marriage, changing the KTP column, handling death certificates,” he clarified.

Furthermore, Hanny also highlighted several statements and activities by Richard Lee that, in his view, served as additional considerations in the revocation.

“Richard admitted in a video that, ‘After 3 years of entering Islam, this is the first time I’ve gone to church again, and I believe in Jesus.’ That sentence, in my opinion, already does not acknowledge la ilaha illallah,” he said.

Nevertheless, Hanny emphasised that revoking the certificate does not automatically revoke a person’s Islamic status.

“In the end, it seems like by revoking the mualaf certificate, I’m not recognising him as Muslim, when that’s not the case. Because I issued the certificate,” he concluded.

Richard Lee Speaks Out

Currently, Richard Lee is still in detention over the Doktif report. On his Instagram, Richard Lee appreciates the decision taken by the management of the Mualaf Centre Indonesia.

“We appreciate every process and decision that exists. For us, faith is a personal journey between humans and God, not just a label or document,” he wrote on Instagram.

Richard Lee claims he will remain focused on living his current life.

“Dr. Richard remains focused on living life with good values, doing the best for others, and continuing to learn to become a better person. Thank you to everyone who continues to support wisely. By Admin,” he explained.
