Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has questioned doctor Richard Lee as a suspect in an alleged consumer protection violation case related to beauty products and services. However, the police have not detained him.

“The suspect DRL was not detained and has been placed under a reporting obligation. Furthermore, the investigation process continues to be conducted professionally and proportionally,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Head of Public Relations Commissioner Budi Hermanto to reporters on Friday (20/2/2026).

Richard Lee was questioned on Thursday (19/2) from 10.40 Western Indonesian Time until 19.00. He was asked 35 questions during the examination. After the questioning process, Richard Lee was permitted to leave at approximately 22.30.

Budi added that the decision was taken in accordance with applicable legal provisions, including Article 100 paragraph (5) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Investigators will now complete the case file for prompt submission to the public prosecutor.

“Investigators make decisions independently and with reference to the principles of legality, professionalism, proportionality, and accountability,” he said.

“The DRL case continues to proceed despite the absence of detention. Investigators will complete the case file and promptly submit it to the public prosecutor to conclude the investigation process that has already commenced. We ensure that the entire process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulations,” he added.

Richard Lee had previously undergone his initial examination as a suspect on Wednesday (7/1). This means the latest questioning constituted a follow-up examination by Jakarta Metropolitan Police investigators.

Pre-trial Challenge Rejected

Richard Lee is known to have filed a legal challenge against Jakarta Metropolitan Police over his designation as a suspect in the alleged consumer protection violation case related to beauty products and services, which was reported by a complainant. Single judge Esthar Oktavi of the South Jakarta District Court declared that Richard Lee’s pre-trial application could not be granted.

“The applicant’s pre-trial application is rejected. Court costs are charged to the state at nil amount,” said presiding judge Esthar Oktavi in the ruling at the South Jakarta District Court.
