Jakarta — The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has said that the rights of the suspect in a case of alleged violations of consumer protection laws and beauty products and care, Dr Richard Lee (DRL), are being fulfilled while in detention. ‘During detention, the rights of the person are fulfilled in the same way as other suspects undergoing detention, including the right to observe fasting and sahur,’ said the Public Relations Head of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. Budi also said there has been no request for remand, and that the person is currently placed with other detainees at the Polda Metro Jaya detention facility. ‘There has been no request for remand submitted through his legal counsel,’ Budi added. Polda Metro Jaya detained Dr Richard Lee (DRL) for obstructing the investigation related to alleged breaches of consumer protection laws and beauty products and care. The Public Relations Head stated that there were two grounds for the detention on Friday night. ‘Firstly, the suspect did not attend additional examinations on 3 March 2026 without providing clear information. On that day, the suspect was livestreaming on TikTok,’ he said. ‘Based on this, the suspect DRL was detained at 21:50 WIB at the Polda Metro Jaya detention complex,’ Budi said. Richard Lee was named a suspect on 15 December 2025 in connection with alleged offences of violation of consumer protection related to products and beauty care. In the police report registered under LPB No. 7317/XII/2024/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, Richard Lee is alleged to have breached several articles. First, Article 435 in conjunction with Article 138(2) of Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health, with a maximum penalty of 12 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp5 billion. Then, Article 62(1) in conjunction with Article 8(1) and Article 9(1) of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, with a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp2 billion.
