Richard Lee Case Still Unresolved, Police Extend Detention by 40 Days

Jakarta, VIVA - Police have extended the detention of the suspect in the alleged consumer protection violation case, Dr. Richard Lee (DRL), for 40 days. The detention extension is effective from 26 March until 5 May 2026.

Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the measure was taken by investigators while awaiting the results of the case file review by the prosecutor.

“For the suspect DRL, detention has been extended for the next 40 days,” Budi told reporters at Metro Jaya Regional Police headquarters on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

He explained that investigators are still awaiting confirmation on the completeness of the file from the prosecutor’s office. Richard Lee’s case file was submitted to the Banten Attorney General’s Office on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, around 1:00 PM Western Indonesia Time.

“We are still waiting to see if the case file has been declared complete or if it still needs to be supplemented. Therefore, investigators have taken the step to extend the detention,” he said.

Previously reported, the latest developments in the case involving Richard Lee were again conveyed by the police. Investigators confirmed that the suspect’s detention period has been extended as part of the ongoing legal process.

This was revealed by Deputy Head of Public Information Sub-directorate Andaru Rahutomo of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Public Relations Division. He stated that the detention extension was carried out in accordance with procedures and the results of coordination with the prosecutor’s office.

“It can be extended for another 40 days, in line with coordination between investigators and the prosecutor’s office,” he explained.

According to Andaru, this extension is necessary to give investigators space to complete the case file, including gathering evidence and additional statements needed before proceeding to the trial stage.

In conjunction with that, investigators are also continuing to examine several witnesses. One of them is RE, Richard Lee’s wife, who was questioned by the Metro Jaya Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate on Friday, 27 March 2026.
