Jakarta – A member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rajiv, has praised the government’s rice reserve stockpile (CBP) that has surpassed 5 million tonnes.

This rice stockpile, he said, is the highest in history and proves that Indonesia can achieve food self-sufficiency more quickly.

According to Rajiv, Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman has been serious in carrying out his duties.

“President Prabowo set a four-year target for rice self-sufficiency, but Minister Amran only needed 1.5 years to achieve it. This is extraordinary,” said Rajiv, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, 28 April 2026.

Furthermore, Rajiv noted that monthly rice production reaches 5.7 million tonnes, so Indonesia’s food situation can be said to be secure for the next nine months.

“In a global situation full of uncertainties and food disruption threats, we are instead secure because we have abundant food reserves for up to 324 days ahead. Even every month our rice production reaches 5.7 million tonnes,” Rajiv stated.

He observed that the Ministry of Agriculture has been very progressive with several strategic programmes, such as maize and sugar self-sufficiency, increased coffee and cocoa production.

In addition, he said, priority programmes such as paddy field extensification, land optimisation, provision of superior seeds, agricultural machinery and equipment (alsintan), fertiliser subsidies, up to downstreaming of plantations and livestock have already yielded results now.

Nevertheless, Rajiv reminded the Minister not to be complacent, because in 2026 the threat of Godzilla El Niño could destroy all the ministry’s targets if not addressed seriously.

“All achievements will certainly be tested by ever-changing conditions. This year, the Ministry of Agriculture must be prepared and not complacent in facing Godzilla El Niño in the form of prolonged drought that is even drier, threatening our agricultural production,” Rajiv said.
