Jakarta – A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission IV, Alien Mus, has commended the government’s success in boosting the national rice reserves to over 5 million tonnes.

This achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening national food security. It marks the highest level since Indonesia’s independence.

According to the latest data, the government’s rice reserve stock (CBP) managed by Perum Bulog has reached approximately 5,000,198 tonnes as of 23 April 2026. This figure reflects a significant increase in domestic rice production and absorption.

Alien Mus stated that this accomplishment deserves appreciation, but the government must not become complacent. He stressed the importance of maintaining stability in rice supply and prices, especially amid rising global geopolitical tensions due to the conflict between Iran and the United States, which could impact the world’s food supply chain.

“This achievement is certainly very positive and serves as proof of the government’s hard work in strengthening food security. However, stability must be maintained, both in terms of distribution and prices, so that the benefits are truly felt by the public,” Alien Mus said in his statement on Friday, 24 April 2026.

According to him, the uncertain global situation could affect the food sector, through logistical disruptions, rising distribution costs, or pressure on commodity prices. Therefore, he called on the government to ensure smooth rice distribution to the regions and anticipate potential price surges.

In addition, Commission IV of the DPR is also pushing for the optimisation of Perum Bulog’s role in maintaining market balance, including through market operations if necessary.

“The large stock must be accompanied by good distribution management. Do not let the stock be abundant, but prices remain high in the community,” he added.

With the available stock, Indonesia is considered to be in a safer position to face global uncertainties.

This DPR member from the North Maluku electoral district also added that to ensure secure supply and stability, ongoing supervision and appropriate policies are needed to truly maintain national food security sustainably.

“This highest rice stock achievement must ensure stable and affordable supply and prices at the community level, so we need to collaborate on joint supervision,” he stated.
