JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI, Tamsil Linrung, has commended the success of the surge in national rice reserves reaching 5 million tonnes.

However, Tamsil reminded that the state must also ensure fair distribution, price stability, and the welfare of farmers as the main actors.

“When fertiliser is available, irrigation is improved, and policies favour local farmers, production increases. But our task is not finished; this production must be distributed fairly to all regions, without creating new disparities,” Tamsil stated in his comments on Thursday (23/4/2026).

In this regard, he also appreciated Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman for ensuring the availability of subsidised fertiliser, improving distribution governance, and accelerating the rehabilitation of irrigation networks in regional food production centres.

Furthermore, Tamsil assessed that the achievement of 5 million tonnes of rice reserves is a collective success and the hard work of farmers.

“The rice reserves approaching 5 million tonnes should be seen as a collective success, especially the hard work of farmers in the regions. This is an important foundation towards sustainable food self-sufficiency,” he said.

Further, Tamsil assessed that President Prabowo Subianto’s food self-sufficiency programme is beginning to have an impact on increasing production and improving farmer welfare.

He quoted data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which shows the rice farmer price index received increasing to 144.52 in March 2026 from 137.94 in March 2025.

“This is a strong indicator that food policies not only focus on production output but also maintain the economic value received by farmers. This means the welfare of farmers in the regions is also boosted,” said Tamsil.

Amran stated that the data refers to Bulog data as of 08.55 WIB today.

“Today we announce 5,000,198 tonnes of rice. This is thanks to all our hard work,” said Amran when directly checking the Bulog warehouse with observers and media crews at JDP Karawang1 LogisticPark, West Java.

Meanwhile, Bulog’s warehouse capacity throughout Indonesia can accommodate 3 million tonnes of rice.

“We have rented again approximately 1,000,000 tonnes of capacity,” said Amran.
