Sumenep (ANTARA) – Rice production in Sumenep Regency, East Java, reached 113,362 tonnes between January and November 2026, an increase of 3,985 tonnes, or 3.64 per cent, compared with 109,377 tonnes in the same period in 2025.

Dewo Ringgih, head of the agricultural extension team at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Agricultural Extension and Human Resources Development Agency (BPPSDMP) for Sumenep Regency, said in Sumenep on Monday that the increase in rice production had coincided with growth in additional planted area, harvested area and dry milled grain (GKG) production.

He said the regency’s additional planted area (LTT) from October 2025 to September 2026 reached 33,414 hectares, an increase of about 1,972 hectares, or 5.9 per cent, compared with the previous period.

The harvested area between January and November 2026 reached 37,311 hectares, up 1,541 hectares, or 4.31 per cent, from 35,770 hectares in the same period a year earlier.

Dry milled grain (GKG) production also rose, reaching 196,324 tonnes, he said. This was an increase of 6,901 tonnes, or 3.64 per cent, from 189,423 tonnes in 2025.

Dewo said the results were due to collaboration between the local government, through its Food Security and Agriculture Office, and agricultural extension workers who support farmers in the field.

“The Sumenep Regency Government and extension workers continue to work alongside the farming community, providing support, guidance and solutions to the problems farmers face, helping to minimise crop failures,” he said.

He expressed hope that the upward trend in agricultural production in Sumenep would continue and contribute to meeting national food needs.
