Rice Prices Rise, Farmers Reap Significant Profits
The national Farmer Terms of Trade (NTP) in May 2026 reached 127.13, representing a 1.50% increase compared to April 2026. This improvement in NTP occurred because the price index received by farmers (It) rose by 2.53%, which was higher than the increase in the price index paid by farmers (Ib) of 0.35%.
“The national NTP for May 2026 was 127.73, or an increase of 1.99% compared to the previous month. The NTP increase was due to the Farmer Price Index (It) experiencing a rise of 2.53%, which was higher than the increase in the Farmer Paid Price Index (Ib) of 0.53%,” stated the Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information, Pudji Ismartini, at the BPS Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
By sub-sector, the NTP for Food Crops rose by 1.34% to 113.79. Meanwhile, Horticulture NTP rose by 7.08% to 140.58, Plantation Crop NTP rose by 1.93% to 164.24, and Livestock NTP rose by 0.43% to 103.86. Conversely, Fisheries NTP fell by 0.64% to 107.01, including a 0.47% decrease in the Fisherman’s Terms of Trade (NTN) and a 0.9% decrease in Fish Farming Value.
Additionally, BPS recorded an increase in the average wholesale and retail prices of rice, rising by 0.68% to Rp14,574 per kilogram and 0.38% month-on-month to Rp15,358 per kilogram, respectively. Furthermore, the average price of rice at the milling level rose by 0.58% month-on-month to Rp13,765 per kilogram. “The rice prices we are announcing cover all qualities and regions across Indonesia,” she added.
