Rice price skyrockets

YOGYAKARTA: The fuel price hikes have affected the price of rice in Yogyakarta, with the staple rising from Rp 2,900 a kilogram two weeks ago to around Rp 4,300 now.

In order stabilize the price, the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) Yogyakarta operations would soon conduct market operations, chief Agusdin Faridh said.

"Our people are ready and once we get the green light from the government, we will stabilize the price through reducing or increasing rice supplies in the markets," Agusdin said.

Despite the skyrocketing price of rice, Agusdin called on people not to panic. Current stocks would last around nine months, he said. -- JP
