Rice and Corn Production Rise in First Half of 2026, BPS Notes

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded that national rice and corn production continued to show growth in the first half of 2026. The increase was supported by a rise in the harvest area over several periods, although BPS estimates that rice production from July to September will be slightly lower than the same period last year. BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono stated that the realised rice harvest area in June 2026 reached 0.84 million hectares, an increase of 6.93 percent compared to June 2025, which was 0.79 million hectares. In line with the increase in harvest area, rice production in June 2026 is estimated to reach 4.29 million tonnes of dry unhusked grain (GKG), up 7.02 percent compared to June last year, which amounted to 4.01 million tonnes of GKG. ‘Likewise, the total rice production recorded reached 2.47 million tonnes, up 6.96 percent compared to June last year,’ Ateng said during a press conference at the BPS Office in Jakarta on Monday (3/8/2026). Cumulatively, the rice harvest area during January-June 2026 reached 6.31 million hectares, an increase of 0.81 percent compared to the same period last year. Rice production in the first half of 2026 was recorded at 33.58 million tonnes of GKG, up 0.46 percent year-on-year, while rice production reached 19.35 million tonnes, an increase of 0.45 percent. BPS estimates the rice harvest area for July-September 2026 will reach 3.15 million hectares. The potential rice production for that period is estimated at 16.25 million tonnes of GKG, while rice production is projected to reach 9.36 million tonnes. For corn, BPS recorded the realised harvest area in June 2026 at 0.25 million hectares. Production of dry shelled corn with 14 percent moisture content in that month is estimated to reach 1.50 million tonnes. Cumulatively, corn production during January-June 2026 reached 8.70 million tonnes, an increase of 1.62 percent compared to the same period the previous year. These results indicate that national corn production still recorded growth in the first half of this year.
