Riau terror suspect gets six years

PEKANBARU, Riau: A panel of judges at the Pekanbaru District Court sentenced on Thursday Sudigdoyo, alias Maryoto, to six years in prison for harboring alleged Malaysian terrorists Dr. Azhari and Noordin Mohd. Top.

Presiding judge Sumantri said the accused was found to have assisted the two international terror suspects in renting a house in the Delima Puri housing complex in Sidomulyo subdistrict, Tampan district, Pekanbaru.

Azhari and Noordin, who have been charged with involvement in last year's Marriott hotel bombing in Jakarta, are still at large.

The sentence was lighter than the 10-year prison sentence prosecutors had been seeking.

The judges said the defendant's actions threatened national stability and the lives of many people. -- Antara
