Pekanbaru — Riau Regional Police successfully held the 2026 Green Policing Oration Competition Exhibition as a platform for the younger generation to voice innovative solutions to environmental issues. The event, attended by secondary and university students, aimed to raise collective awareness about protecting nature and its ecosystems.

Held on Sunday (15/2/2026), the event featured hundreds of outstanding students from various regions committed to promoting a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable Riau. The competition was officially closed by Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan.

In his address, the Police Chief emphasised the important role of students in maintaining ecological sustainability, inviting Gen-Z to collaborate in efforts to protect the environment.

"Keep creating — you must be brave enough to put forward your own ideas and contest those ideas through dialectics, oration, or positive narratives," said Inspector General Herry.

Herry Heryawan likened the students to tree saplings that continue to grow and develop. "The younger generation is like tree saplings that are continually nurtured and receive sunlight. Just like you who are nurtured with education, God willing, you will become the leaders of the future," he said.

Inspector General Herry Heryawan stated that Green Policing is not merely a ceremonial programme but rather a policing model for the modern police era. The Green Policing concept affirms the role of police not only as law enforcers but also as guardians of social order and the natural environment.

Citing data from the Ministry of Forestry, Inspector General Herry noted that forest cover in Riau Province has diminished year on year due to forest fires and degradation. Green Policing, initiated by Riau Regional Police, serves as a response to addressing environmental problems in the province.

Beyond law enforcement, Riau Regional Police continues to pursue preventive measures, including promoting Green Policing among the younger generation, such as enhancing collaboration in tree planting efforts.

"Fire suppression every year is downstream work, but there is no upstream solution yet. Therefore, this activity is about how we communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders — the Ministry of Forestry, forestry offices, environmental agencies, and communities. We work upstream by planting trees. If this activity is carried out now, in 20 years it will make an extraordinary contribution," he said.

Carrying the theme "Youth Action for a Clean, Safe, and Sustainable Environment", the event served as both a space for expression and education for students to present critical ideas and innovative solutions on environmental issues through the art of oration.
