Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) have pioneered an innovation to raise the yield of high-quality shelled corn. One aspect involves creating a liquid organic fertiliser formulated specifically in the Tabung Harmoni Hijau facility owned by Polda Riau. Through laboratory research at the Tabung Harmoni Hijau, a member of the Specialised Duty Corps (Bakomsus Polri) from the agriculture division made an innovative breakthrough by producing a liquid organic fertiliser blend.

Polda Riau Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan, in his report to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that this breakthrough was carried out as a proactive step to anticipate the long dry season in 2026.

“Bakomsus research at the Tabung Harmoni Hijau laboratory of Polda Riau has produced seeds of premium local corn varieties and a liquid organic fertiliser that is adaptive to soil conditions in Riau province, thereby increasing corn production,” Herry Heryawan said during a simultaneous corn planting event in Pelalawan Regency, on Saturday (7 March 2026).

Herry Heryawan assessed that increasing local corn production is currently very necessary, given the addition of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) which has led to a surge in demand for eggs. Corn kernels are required as poultry feed.

Referencing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Herry Heryawan noted that egg production in Riau Province in 2025 reached 3,337.73 tonnes.

“And that figure is still far from meeting the demand for eggs, so eggs must be imported from West Sumatra (Sumbar) and North Sumatra (Sumut),” he said.

Therefore, this is one of Polda Riau’s strategic steps to increase local corn production as raw material for poultry farmers to be self-sufficient.

“Because the annual need in Riau Province is 50,000 tonnes per year or still around 8 percent,” he concluded.

For information, Tabung Harmoni Hijau is a pilot project of Polda Riau in seedling tree and plant cultivation supporting the Green Policing program. As time goes by, Polda Riau has developed Tabung Harmoni Hijau into a centre of food self-sufficiency, which includes a goat farm, laying hens, fish ponds, vegetables, and corn crops.

Tabung Harmoni Hijau is also integrated with SPPG-SPPG under the management of Yayasan Kemala Bhayangkari Daerah Riau, which functions as a supplier of raw food materials.
