Riau Receives Additional Home Renovation Quota, Total Reaches 5,000 Units for 2026
Pekanbaru, (ANTARA) - The Riau Provincial Government has once again received an additional quota for the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Programme (BSPS), or house renovation scheme, from the central government, bringing the total to 5,000 units in 2026.
Acting Governor of Riau SF Hariyanto said that initially, the BSPS or house renovation quota for Riau Province in 2025 was set at only 433 units. It was then set at 4,687 units for 2026.
“Then, roughly two weeks ago, we received another increase from the central government, bringing it to 5,000 units,” he said in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.
He therefore expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto and the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas for their great attention to the housing needs of the people of Riau. He expressed hope that the programme would run as smoothly as possible.
“Many thanks, this is extraordinary assistance from the President through the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas in increasing the quota — we did not expect it. So our responsibility here is very great,” he remarked.
According to him, the challenges facing the housing sector in Riau remain considerable. He noted that there are still people who have yet to enjoy housing that meets decent living standards.
“We all understand that the housing challenges in Riau are still quite significant. Data shows that the percentage of households in Riau with access to adequate housing has only reached 78.8 per cent. This means around 21.2 per cent of households still do not meet all the criteria,” he said.
He explained that the housing problem is not only about the number of homes available. Beyond that, there are various factors affecting people’s ability to own decent housing.
“These figures do not only show the scale of housing need; they also reflect issues of people’s purchasing power, building quality, land availability, financing, and support infrastructure such as roads, drainage, clean water and sanitation. This is what we aim to address, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on the three million houses programme for the people,” he explained.
