Riau Ready to Sanction Fraud in 2026 New Student Admissions
The Acting Governor of Riau, SF Hariyanto, has emphasised that there will be zero tolerance for practices of gratification or fraud in the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for State Senior High Schools (SMA) and Vocational High Schools (SMK) in Riau Province for the 2026/2027 academic year.
He also reminded all school principals and committees to maintain integrity and not to exploit the momentum of the SPMB for personal gain. “Do not attempt to accept gratifications. If proven, we will impose sanctions. This applies to all school principals without exception,” stated Acting Governor SF Hariyanto on Monday (15/6).
He emphasised that the student admission process must proceed according to the established regulations. There must be no ‘reserved seats’, data manipulation, or attempts to pass students through methods that violate the rules.
He also warned parents not to be enticed by parties claiming they can help secure school placements in exchange for money or other facilities. “Parents should not believe promises from outsiders. If the requirements are met and the rules are followed, God willing, they will be admitted,” he said.
He revealed that the government will closely monitor the progress of the SPMB to ensure it remains objective, transparent, and fair for all participants. “We are ready to support a clean SPMB implementation. School committees must work honestly. There must be no manipulation. If fraud is discovered, sanctions will be issued,” he added.
Furthermore, the Riau Provincial Government continues to support the existence of private schools as part of the effort to ensure all children have access to education. The provincial government will take action against any form of deviation in the implementation of the SPMB to maintain public trust and guarantee a fair admission process for all prospective students. “We support state schools, and we also support private schools. The important thing is that there are no violations of the rules during this student admission process,” he concluded.
