Riau Ready to Sanction Fraud in 2026 New Student Admissions

Acting Governor of Riau, SF Hariyanto, has emphasised that he will not tolerate any practices of gratification or fraud in the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) for state high schools and vocational schools in Riau Province for the 2026/2027 academic year. He also reminded all school principals and committees to maintain integrity and not exploit the SPMB process for personal gain. “Do not try to accept gratuities. If proven, sanctions will be imposed. All school principals without exception,” stressed the Acting Governor on Monday (15/6). He emphasised that the new student admissions process must proceed according to established regulations. There must be no titipan, data manipulation, or attempts to pass prospective students through means that violate the rules. He also reminded parents not to be tempted by parties claiming they can help enrol children in certain schools in exchange for money or other facilities. “Parents should not believe promises from outsiders. If they meet the requirements and follow the rules, God willing, they will be admitted,” he said. He revealed that the government will strictly monitor the SPMB process to ensure it is objective, transparent, and fair for all participants. “We are ready to support a clean SPMB. The school committee must work honestly. There must be no manipulation. If fraud is found, sanctions will be imposed,” he stated. He added that the Riau Provincial Government also continues to support private schools as part of efforts to ensure all children have access to education. The provincial government will also take action against any irregularities in the SPMB implementation to maintain public trust and guarantee a fair admissions process for all prospective students. “We support state schools, we also support private schools. The most important thing is that there are no rule violations in this new student admissions process,” he concluded.
