Riau Pushes Investment and Downstream Processing as Governor and Bengkalis Regent Meet Indonesia's Investment Minister
Bengkalis (ANTARA) — Riau Province continues to accelerate investment by leveraging its abundant natural resources. In a concrete step, Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, together with regents and mayors across Riau Province, held a direct audience with Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, in Jakarta on Monday (5/5).
The visit aimed to strengthen synergy between regional and central government, whilst discussing various strategic issues in investment development and downstream processing.
The Riau Governor emphasised the importance of collaboration to accelerate development in the region, which is known for its significant economic potential. During the meeting, the Governor raised a number of important issues, including road damage caused by mining haulage trucks. He proposed the construction of a logistics railway line as a long-term solution that would be both efficient and environmentally friendly.
Bengkalis Regent Kasmarni attended and directly conveyed the aspirations of the eastern coastal area of Sumatra. She stressed the importance of strategic communication between the regional government and the Investment Ministry to strengthen the investment ecosystem.
"We welcome this forum as a platform to present the potential and challenges we face. We hope that concrete and sustainable collaboration can be realised soon," said Kasmarni.
Kasmarni outlined the key potential of Bengkalis Regency, ranging from the maritime and fisheries sector, renewable energy, agriculture, to Malay culture-based tourism. However, she noted that this potential requires adequate promotional support and infrastructure to attract investors.
She also highlighted the importance of downstream processing as the key to increasing the added value of local products. Until now, the majority of Bengkalis's natural produce has been sold in raw form. "We want to become a region capable of processing and managing natural resources sustainably," Kasmarni affirmed.
Investment Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani expressed appreciation for the proactive steps taken by the Riau Provincial Government. He considered that this collaborative approach between central and regional government needs to be continuously expanded to accelerate the entry of quality investment.
Rosan assured that his office would follow up on the various proposals submitted, including regulatory simplification, strengthening regional human resources, and the construction of strategic infrastructure. He also opened the possibility of memoranda of understanding and follow-up visits to areas in Riau in the near future.
