A female student, identified by the initials F (23), was suddenly attacked and slashed by a man, identified by the initials R (21), just before a session at the Sultan Syarif Kasim Islamic University (UIN Suska) in Riau. Police revealed that the attack was motivated by the perpetrator’s feelings of revenge and resentment.

The Head of Public Relations of the Riau Police, Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, stated that the perpetrator had intended to attack the victim. The perpetrator was found to be carrying a machete and a sword during the attack.

“We are still investigating the motive further. It is clear that the perpetrator had the intention to commit the assault, with the background of feelings of revenge and resentment,” said Pandra in Pekanbaru, Thursday (February 26, 2026).

Pandra explained that the incident occurred around 08:30 WIB on the 2nd floor of the Faculty of Sharia Law. At that time, the victim was preparing to attend her thesis session.

“The perpetrator, R, had intentionally brought a machete and a sword. He immediately approached the victim and caused injuries,” he added.

Thanks to the quick response of other students and security personnel, the perpetrator was successfully apprehended. Meanwhile, the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

“The suspect is currently being held at the Bina Widya Police Station,” he said.

The police have expressed their appreciation for the quick response of the students and campus security, which led to the successful apprehension of the perpetrator. The police are currently conducting an intensive investigation of the perpetrator.
