Riau Police Medical Team Conducts Door-to-Door Health Checks for Residents Affected by Kerumutan Forest Fires
The Riau Regional Police has deployed personnel from its Medical and Health Division to the Forest and Land Fire Disaster Management Health Post in Banjar Panjang Village, Kerumutan District, Pelalawan Regency. The visit aims to ensure the physical condition of firefighters and residents affected by the haze from forest and land fires remains protected.
The delegation, led directly by the Head of the Riau Police Medical and Health Division, AKBP Dr Parluhutan Sitindaon, was welcomed by Pelalawan Police Chief AKBP Jhon Louis Letedara and his staff on Sunday (23/8/2026). Also present were Sub-Division Head of Police Medicine Kompol Dr Desy Martha Panjaitan, Kerumutan Police Chief Iptu Budi Santoso, and the Head of Kerumutan Community Health Centre, Harno.
After a consolidation briefing, the Medical and Health Division divided personnel into three medical teams to expand the reach of services in the field. The first team focused on providing health examinations for the general public at the main post. The second team was deployed directly to the firefighting area to check the physical condition of joint personnel from the Indonesian National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and related agencies battling the fire hotspots. Meanwhile, the third team moved door to door visiting residential areas around the fire location.
In addition to sweeping residential areas and firefighting locations, the delegation also reviewed the readiness of facilities, infrastructure, and medicine stock at the Kerumutan District Community Health Centre.
The Head of the Riau Police Medical and Health Division, AKBP Dr Parluhutan Sitindaon, emphasised that the safety and health of officers and residents are the top priority.
“The health of personnel in the field and communities affected by the smoke is our priority. Through the division into three teams, we are ensuring health services reach the posts, fire hotspots, and residents’ homes. The synergy between the district police and the local community health centre must be maintained so that forest and land fire handling runs optimally,” said Parluhutan.
The series of health service activities concluded in the evening. The entire medical handling process in the Kerumutan forest and land fire affected area took place safely, orderly, and conducively.
Previously, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan said the Riau Police Medical and Health Division team was collaborating with the Pelalawan Regency Health Office to ensure the health condition of residents affected by the forest and land fire haze in the Kerumutan area.
“We are conducting simultaneous checks in Kerumutan Village, especially to check how many of our children have been affected by acute respiratory infections. Then we are distributing masks and also conducting trauma healing,” said Inspector General Herry.
