The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) has clarified a viral narrative circulating on social media, which complained about the police’s service in relation to a traffic accident case. Polda Riau affirmed that it never rejected any reports and has provided services in accordance with procedure.

There are two viral narratives circulating on social media. The first concerns the allegation that the police ‘rejected a report’ about the accident experienced by Ernawati Martain on Jalan Kubang, Tuah Mardani District, Pekanbaru City, on Friday (20 February) at approximately 4:00 PM. At that time, Ernawati was involved in a single-vehicle accident and sustained injuries.

The second narrative, also related to the traffic accident, concerns the Polri 110 call centre service at the Pekanbaru Police Precinct. The viral narrative claims that the 110 call centre did not respond to calls.

Police Received Report from Victim

The Head of Public Relations of Polda Riau, Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, explained the details of the incident. Commissioner Pandra stated that the accident was only reported by the victim’s family to the Traffic Unit of the Pekanbaru Police Precinct on Saturday (21 February) at approximately midnight.

“During the initial report, officers received the family, including Ernawati, and clarified the chronology of the incident,” said Commissioner Pandra during a press conference at the Riau Police Headquarters, Pekanbaru, on Tuesday (24 February 2026).

Commissioner Pandra said that at that time, a police report could not be filed because there were administrative requirements that needed to be completed by the reporter. According to him, the officers of the Traffic Unit also explained the procedure for reporting.

“And this was allegedly interpreted as ‘rejection’ by the reporter,” he said.

Commissioner Pandra affirmed that they never rejected the report. In fact, on the same day at around 12:00 PM, the Traffic Unit received the report after the family brought the necessary documents, including a letter from the hospital.

“After the report was received, the victim received the necessary administrative assistance for medical treatment. This fact shows that the service continued and there was no rejection of the report, as claimed in the narrative circulating in the public sphere,” Pandra emphasised.

110 Call Log Shows No Activity

Next, regarding the viral narrative alleging that the ‘110 call centre did not respond to emergency calls’ from the victim. Commissioner Pandra stated that this was not true.

“Regarding the narrative that the 110 call centre did not respond to the reporter, the Internal Affairs Division of Polda Riau has checked the call log at the command centre of the 110 Polresta Pekanbaru during the time period mentioned in the report,” he explained.

From the results of the examination, Pandra stated that no calls were found from the number of the parties involved or from around the location of the hospital at the time in question.

“Several family members who were questioned also stated that they had never made any calls to the Polri 110 call centre. Therefore, the claim that 110 did not respond cannot be factually proven based on the available data,” he emphasised.

Polda Riau affirmed that every piece of information circulating in the public sphere remains a concern and is followed up through internal supervision mechanisms as a form of institutional accountability. He said that this clarification was not intended to silence the public.

“This clarification is not intended to cover up criticism, but to ensure that public opinion is based on complete, objective and accountable facts,” he said.

He affirmed that Polda Riau remains committed to improving public services, strengthening internal supervision and ensuring that the Polri 110 call centre continues to be a reliable and responsive service for the public.

“Public criticism will always be used as an evaluation, but every narrative that develops is expected to be based on verified facts,” he said.

Clarification from the Victim’s Family

During the press conference, Polda Riau also played a video clarification from Ernawati’s daughter, Nila Febrianti. She affirmed that they never contacted 110 regarding her mother’s accident.

“As Ernawati’s daughter, I did not make any reports to 110 regarding the circulating news,” said the family representative.

She also said that the police had handled the report about Ernawati’s traffic accident well on the same day they reported it.

“My brother, Firdaus Saputra, made a report to the Polresta on Saturday and the police handled it well, and my mother has been treated at the hospital,” she concluded.
