The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) conducted urine examinations on hundreds of its personnel. The measure was taken to ensure no police officers are involved in the misuse of illicit substances.

The unannounced inspection targeted personnel from various functional units, ranging from non-commissioned officers to mid-ranking officers within the Riau Police headquarters. The operation was carried out at Polda Riau headquarters on Jalan Pattimura, Pekanbaru City, on Monday (23/2/2025).

Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan stated that the exercise was a follow-up to directives from National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, whilst also fulfilling the force’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free environment.

“We continuously carry out internal oversight through the Regional Inspectorate General and the Professional and Security Division, which constantly monitor and conduct checks on all personnel,” said Inspector General Herry Heryawan.

The two-star general issued a stern warning to personnel against narcotics misuse. He also affirmed that strict sanctions would be imposed on any personnel found to be involved with drugs.

“There will be no mercy for Riau Police personnel found guilty, even as users. If proven to be mere users, they will face strict measures in accordance with regulations, let alone those involved in narcotics transactions,” he added.

The Police Chief reiterated that personnel must not commit violations that could tarnish the institution. Polda Riau would show zero tolerance towards any personnel found to be involved.

“Those proven to have committed violations or crimes, or joined criminal syndicates, especially involving narcotics, will receive no mercy. Because from the very beginning I have conveyed the motto ‘Protecting Honour, Safeguarding Dignity’,” he explained.

Inspector General Herry Heryawan added that his office remained open to suggestions and criticism. He urged the public to file reports through the Yanduan Online application.
