The 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration in Riau Province is centred on the theme ‘Police for the People’. Various social, religious, sporting, public service, and community empowerment activities are being carried out as a form of dedication by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to be closer, more present, and more beneficial to the public.

Chairman of the 80th Bhayangkara Day Committee for Polda Riau, Commissioner Imran Amir, stated that the entire series of events is not merely intended as a ceremonial observance of the police force’s anniversary, but also serves as a means to strengthen the bond between Polri and the community through concrete actions that provide direct benefits.

“The theme for this year’s Bhayangkara Day is ‘Police for the People’. Therefore, all activities we carry out are directed at providing tangible benefits to the community, strengthening social solidarity, improving public services, and fostering closer relations between Polri and all elements of society,” said Commissioner Imran Amir on Friday (19/6/2026).

He explained that the series of activities for the 80th Bhayangkara Day began with various initiatives that directly engage the public, such as social services, health services, distribution of social assistance, construction and provision of clean water facilities, house renovations, visits to retired personnel and the extended Polri family, and religious services at places of worship.

Additionally, Polda Riau is organising the Beautiful Indonesia Movement, an MSME bazaar and people’s market, interfaith prayers, a group pilgrimage to the Heroes’ Cemetery, as well as the glorification of Tribrata values and the cleansing of the force’s colours as part of efforts to reinforce the spirit of service, nationalism, and togetherness.

In the area of professional development and personnel capacity building, Polda Riau is also holding competitions for security guards, security service companies and special police units, police function competitions, food security competitions, police station cleanliness competitions, shooting competitions, exemplary security guard and community policing officer awards, neighbourhood watch awards, public speaking contests, and various other competitions aimed at enhancing professionalism and service quality to the community.

According to the Head of the Logistics Bureau of Polda Riau, each activity has a different yet complementary purpose. Health services are intended to improve access to healthcare for the community, particularly vulnerable groups and the underprivileged. The programme to provide clean water facilities and house renovations aims to help improve the community’s quality of life, while social assistance represents Polri’s concern for citizens in need.

In the social and religious spheres, visits, religious services, and interfaith prayers are conducted to strengthen the values of togetherness, tolerance, and unity. “Meanwhile, the pilgrimage to the Heroes’ Cemetery serves as a moment to remember the services of the heroes while instilling a spirit of dedication in all Polri personnel,” he clarified.

The various competitions held are also directed at improving personnel professionalism and encouraging community participation in maintaining local security and order. “From the neighbourhood watch competition, exemplary security guard and community policing officer awards, public speaking, to the food security competition, these are all part of efforts to build a better quality of Polri service that is adaptive to the community’s needs,” explained the 1998 Police Academy graduate.

Commissioner Imran added that one of the important agendas in this year’s Bhayangkara Day series is the centralised social service event to be held on 6 July 2026, led directly by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, on a national scale. “On 6 July 2026, a centralised social service event will be held, led directly by the National Police Chief. Polda Riau and all its ranks have prepared for its implementation so that its benefits can be widely felt by the community, especially those in need,” he said.

In addition to social and public service activities, Polda Riau has also prepared a national-scale sporting agenda that serves as a highlight of this year’s Bhayangkara Day commemoration. Polda Riau will hold the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 on 19 July 2026 in Pekanbaru City. The largest running event in Sumatra will be the peak of the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration series at the Polda Riau level.

A total of 15,080 participants from various regions in Indonesia are confirmed to take part in the event, which combines the spirit of sport, togetherness, and environmental awareness. According to Imran, the Riau Bhayangkara Run has evolved into more than just a sporting event. It has become a space for collaboration between Polri and the community to build a culture of healthy living, strengthen social solidarity, and convey an important message about environmental care.

“The Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 is the peak of the 80th Bhayangkara Day series for Polda Riau. This event is a momentum to strengthen the relationship between Polri and the community, build a spirit of healthy living, and convey a message of environmental awareness, which has been one of Polda Riau’s service focuses,” said Commissioner Imran. He added that the high public enthusiasm, demonstrated by the sold-out participant quota, is proof that Bhayangkara Day has evolved into a moment of togetherness owned not only by the Polri institution but also by the wider community.

“Ultimately, this entire series of activities is a tangible manifestation of the ‘Police for the People’ spirit, which is to be present, to work, and to provide benefits that are directly felt by the community,” concluded Commissioner Imran Amir.
