Riau Regional Police conducted a surprise urine examination to ensure there is no drug abuse within its ranks. The exercise involved all Riau Regional Police personnel, including Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan and senior officials.

“This examination was carried out not only on regular personnel but also on all senior officials, including the Police Chief,” said Head of Public Relations for Riau Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad, speaking to journalists at Riau Police Headquarters on Monday (23/2/2026).

Pandra stated that the examination reflects Riau Regional Police’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free institution. Approximately 3,000 personnel were tested.

“Not all results are in yet. However, the results for the Police Chief and senior officials have come through, and all tested negative,” Pandra added.

Errant Personnel Will Face Firm Action

Previously, Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan said the measure was undertaken as a form of internal oversight. He stressed that there would be no tolerance for anyone found to be involved in narcotics abuse.

“There is no mercy for Riau Regional Police personnel who are proven to be users. Even mere users, if proven, will face strict sanctions in accordance with regulations — let alone those involved in narcotics transactions,” said Inspector General Herry Heryawan.

The Riau Police Chief emphasised that before taking action against the public, the police institution must first ensure its own internal condition is clean and free from drugs.

The urine examination was closely supervised by the Professional and Security Division (Propam) and the medical team from the Medical and Health Division (Biddokkes) of Riau Regional Police.

The Police Chief again reminded personnel not to commit violations that could tarnish the institution. Riau Regional Police will show no tolerance for personnel who are involved.

“Those proven to have committed violations or crimes, or who have joined criminal syndicates — especially narcotics — will receive no mercy. Because from the very beginning I have conveyed the motto: ‘Protect Honour, Guard Dignity’,” he explained.

Inspector General Herry Heryawan added that his office is open to receiving suggestions and criticism. He urged the public to submit reports through the Yanduan Online application.
